Blue Moments

by Emily Jeremiah

β€˜The blue moment – the time between light and dark, when all is in suspense.’

In the wake of her parents’ divorce, Eeva moves from England to Finland with her father, leaving her mother behind. Flung into the midst of a new language and culture, Eeva struggles to find her place between two worlds.

A coming-of-age story with an international twist, Blue Moments follows Eeva on her journey towards womanhood. But Eeva’s path is not straightforward, and she soon realises that to make peace with her own identity, she must first engage with the past.

Emily Jeremiah was born in Kent in 1975, and now lives in London. A professor at Royal Holloway, University of London, she is the author of three academic books. She is also an award-winning translator of poetry and fiction. She has published two selections of translated poetry, by Eeva-Liisa Manner and Sirkka Turkka, with Waterloo Press. With her Finnish mother Fleur Jeremiah, she has co-translated five novels, one of which, Aki Ollikainen’s White Hunger (Peirene Press), was longlisted for the Man Booker International Prize 2016.

Her debut work of fiction, Blue Moments, was published by Valley Press in September 2020.
